NESW develops fun and useful activities for our community of science writers. Because we are spread around the region, we host a mix of remote and in-person events.
Editors Panel
On June 29, we will host a virtual panel discussion featuring four editors from a broad range of outlets. From 7-8:30pm ET, each editor will give you the inside scoop on what they look for in a pitch and how to establish long-term working relationships with their outlets.
Book Talk: A Pox on Fools
Join MIT professor and celebrated author Tom Levenson for a discussion of his newest book, A Pox on Fools: The True Believers, Grifters, and Cynics Who Convinced Us to Reject Vaccines.
Drinks, apps, and networking in Kendall Square
Join fellow NESW members for a casual get-together at Locke Bar, a popular Kendall Square canal-side patio with fire pits! Event will take place with a minimum of 8 participants. RSVP today.
Green Up the Blue Hills 2026
A small crew of NESW members joined the Friends of the Blue Hills at Ponkapoag Pond in Canton, Massachusetts, for Green Up the Blue Hills 2026 on May 9. We learned to identify invasive garlic mustard and got to work yanking the aggressive colonist from trails and surrounding woodland. It was impressive to see the difference just a couple hours of work could make. In total, 50 volunteers, filled 80 bags with 461 pounds of garlic mustard. And it was, of course, great fun to get to know fellow science writers while we worked.
Coffee and Chat
Join us to socialize and network over lunch at Cafe Landwer (651 Boylston St., Boston) on February 26 at 12:30. We'll share delicious Mediterranean food along with our recent wins and losses, joys and gripes.
Museum of Science Adult Night
Join us for the Museum of Science’s next Adult Night, 6-10 pm on Sun., Jan. 18.
